This summer, a portal opened⦠and a wave of young explorers stepped into the Drez Chinese UniverseĀ ā brushes in hand, imaginations unlocked.
We had such a good time during our Chinese Summer Program : Mythical Creature Doodling and Paint WorkshopĀ this summer! Partnered with Artist from Two Fish Atelier, we drew dragons to Phoenix (yes, really), our parents and little artists didnāt hold back ā and we loved every bit of it.
But this wasnāt just about doodles and paint stains. It was a way for our learners to explore Chinese culture beyond textbooks ā through art and imagination. They were so surprised at the new interesting facts about our culture. As they drew, they picked up new words naturally, asked curious questions (some that even stumped us), and started seeing Mandarin as something alive, fun, and theirs.
And yes ā we couldnāt resist adding a little extra sparkle. All participants walked away with small gifts from us, a little surprise to say thank you for bringing their magic into the space.
Workshops like these matter. They remind us that learning Chinese isnāt just about writing characters neatly ā itās about having fun at the same time.
Weāre seriously considering running this again ā maybe with new creatures, new twists, who knows. So if you missed it this round, stay close. Youāll want to keep your eyes peeled š
With paint-splattered joy,
